SEO: You Should Avoid These No-gos

Your website is not ranking particularly well despite good content ? This can have many reasons. From counterproductive keyword stuffing to chaotic links – in this article we present the biggest no-go’s in search engine optimization.

No Go 1: Missing meta information

Not only the visible content of a website plays a role. The so-called meta information is also evaluated by search engines and incorporated into the ranking. They should therefore not be missing. They also make it easier for search engines to preview search results. A meta description and a title are therefore essential. While the title has a direct effect on the rankings, this is not the case with the meta description. However, the latter is often used as torn text in the SERPs. With a clever formulation, potential interested parties can be encouraged to visit your own website.

No Go 2: Duplicate Content

Duplicate content is an absolute no-go for a successful website. Of course, it sounds tempting to be able to enrich your own website with good content without any effort, but search engines punish this behavior with a strong gradation in the ranking. Copied texts or texts that are too similar are often classified as duplicate content and have a damaging effect on your own website. Unique content is essential for a reputable website. When copying foreign texts, the legal aspect should always be taken into account, as it can be a copyright infringement.

No Go 3: Wrong Keywords and Keyword Stuffing

Good text contains relevant and well-placed keywords. What used to come down to the simple motto “more is more” now requires sufficient planning. Where should keywords be placed? Which keywords are relevant? How many keywords can I place without risking being ranked by Google?

The most important aspect here is choosing the right keywords. They are what the consumer, the user who is to be lured to their own website, is looking for. Which keywords best describe the product or service? There are now keyword tools that relieve you of the time-consuming research. Well-known tools are, for example, Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest or Keyword Finder.

No Go 4: Lack of optimization of media content

No website visitor wants to be overwhelmed by seemingly rigid blocks of text. Pictures and videos loosen up texts and ensure a friendly user experience. It is annoying when this content is not optimized and causes long loading times. It is therefore advisable to adjust the size of the images. For an improved ranking, they can be provided with useful tags in the source code. Videos should be set so that they are not automatically played when you visit the site – the customer’s mobile data volume will thank you.
